Frequently Asked Questions

You're not alone

If you're planning on having underfloor heating installed, a safe bet would be that you have a question or 2. If you can't find the answer here, feel free to get in touch with us and we will be happy to help.

How much does it cost to have underfloor heating installed?

Underfloor heating installation costs can vary depending on the type of property that it's being installed in. Typically, new-build houses are easier to install in which reduces the costs. Underfloor heating can range from £15 per m² to £30. Feel free to get in touch with us for a free quotation.

Can I buy and install my own underfloor heating kit?

In some circumstances, yes you can. We wouldn't recommend it for the tricky installs such as overboard and between joist systems but pipe over insulation boards with screed over the top can be straight forward. If you're a bit handy it's well worth investigating the option. Have a look at our underfloor heating kit builder section to find out more. DIY Underfloor Heating

Is underfloor heating cheaper to run than radiators?

Providing the output of the underfloor heating is designed to match the heat loss of the property then yes, underfloor heating will be cheaper to run. Average saving are around 25% annually compared to radiators. This is why we always complete a heat loss for the property and match a suitable underfloor heating system.

What underfloor heating controls do I need?

Your underfloor heating will probably be designed so each room can be controlled by it's own thermostat. If it is then we would recommend the Heatmiser Neo range, stylish and so easy for the end user to operate. They can also easily operated through the Heatmiser app.

What floor is best for underfloor heating?

Ideally tile, stone or a polished screed is the better choice, with a high thermal conductivity. The surface temperature can  be anywhere up to 29°C which allows for a higher output. Having said that most floor types will allow underfloor heating providing the design is suitable. If you're going for carpet make sure the tog value is 2.5 or less (for the carpet and underlay).

Should I use a repair couple with underfloor heating pipe?

No not really, joints under the floor is asking for trouble no matter how reliable they are. This is not to say that there isn't a place for them, if a floor has been tiled and digging the whole floor up to replace the whole pipe isn't an option. Luckily for us we have never been in that situation, Pert-Al-Pert underfloor heating pipe is very reliable and providing the system has been pressure tested then you don't have anything to worry about unless someone sticks a screw through a pipe.
